ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF WORKING FROM HOME

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has already infected almost around the world and raised both global health crisis and an international economic threat. The crisis has already transformed into an economic and labour market.

At the present time, drastically COVID-19 has affected all the workplaces around the world. According to the current situation companies started to adapt work from home. However, the concept “working from home “has both advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages Of Working From Home

· Cost-effectiveness

· Less childcare costs

· Opportunity for a wider pool of job applicants

· Increased productivity and motivation

· Environmentally friendly

Disadvantages Of Working From Home

· Troubles monitoring employee performance

· Less teamwork opportunities

· Difficulty solving complicated technical issues

· Increased telecommunication costs

· More distractions

· It’s harder to ‘switch off’ Michael, H. (2020)

From a business point of view, working from home significantly decreased admin costs, office space cost, water and electricity bills, cutting overheads down greatly. Considerable benefit for the companies was “cost-effectiveness”. Except manual labour employees others could adapt to working from home speedily. Nowadays many companies are conducting an investigation into “working from home”. should we continue this in the future?

Mainly this concept was given more benefits to the employee. Traveling cost and the time has been reduced, less child care costs, increased motivation and productivity and unfortunately, management is facing some issues with working from home. Difficult to monitor employee performances, management cannot do the training and development programs physically, difficult to resolve the technical issues immediately, less communication between the employees and decreasing element of teamwork, as well as decreased the admin cost soared the telecommunication cost due to working from home and management can not comfort the employees under new normal.

There are plenty of both advantages and the disadvantages to the business and employees. That depends on who you are and what is your job role at the company. Which kind of situation you are in. Main thing is both the company and the employee, how do they balance it without struggle? My concern is “working from home” cannot adapt to all companies around the world and that depends on a few circumstances as mentioned above.
